The iris city, in full bloom
The Mt. Pleasant Women’s Club’s annual Flower and Iris Show has been running for more than half a century, and signs are it’s still going strong.
Thirty-eight different exhibitors brought flowers and displays to exhibit this Saturday, some from far out of town, and most of them couldn’t bring just one: A single Pleasant Grove family brought 11 different exhibits, for example.
The event featured awards given out by the Women’s Club as well as People’s Choice ribbons awarded to the flowers and arrangements picked by the visitors; this year, the awards went to Ruth Bonar Angie Davison and Janet Young.
Sponsored by the Women’s Club’s horticulture department, the show is held on the third Saturday in May and aims to preserve one of Mt. Pleasant’s traditional monikers — the Iris City — for new generations.
