MP man arrested for third degree sexual abuse
Following an investigation of alleged sexual abuse by a family member in Burlington, a 20-year old Mt. Pleasant man is in the custody of the Des Moines County Jail.
Tyler Lee White, 20, of Mt. Pleasant was arrested on a Des Moines County warrant for third degree sexual abuse, a class C felony, on Saturday, Jan. 8.
White, according to Burlington Police Sgt. Larkins, was engaged in consensual sex with a 13-year old Burlington female.
The investigation began, Sgt, Larkins said, on Nov. 30 when Burlington police received a report of alleged sexual abuse by a family member.
During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that the 13- year-old girl had a boyfriend. White, Sgt. Larkins said, was that boyfriend.
“Through that investigation, officers learned that the juvenile had a boyfriend whose name was Tyler Lee White who was 20-years old and our juvenile female was 13,” Sgt. Larkins said.
A forensic interviewer from the child protection center in Muscatine interviewed the 13-year old girl. According to Sgt. Larkins, the girl admitted to consensual sex at a residence in Burlington with White and that both her and White were aware of each other’s ages.
Sgt. Larkins said detectives with the Burlington Police Department interviewed White. White, according to Sgt. Larkins, said he thought she was 14 - or 15-years old.
A class C felony carries a maximum sentence of a prison term not to exceed 10 years which may be deferred or suspended unless forcible felony, and a fine of at least $1,000 but not more than $10,000, according to Iowa State Bar Public Relations Committee.
