Alan R. Caldwell, 78, Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Arbor Court.

Open visitation will be Friday, Dec. 6, from noon to 6 p.m., at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Mary Christopher officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Born Aug. 1, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Edward Pascal and Ida Macil Kinney Caldwell. He was a 1953 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. He attended Iowa State University and Iowa Wesleyan College. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the Army Reserves. On Oct.7, 1961, he married Diane Peterson.

Prior to entering the service, he was the parts and shop foreman at Hodson-McKim Automotive. On his return from military duty, he was the manager of Caldwell Auto Supply, which later became SIEG Auto Parts. He retired in 1991.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. He completed eight years of service on the Mt. Pleasant Planning and Zoning Board and was appointed to the Tax Increment Financing Board. He was a committee and board member of the Mt. Pleasant Little League, along with acting as the equipment manager for many years.

He was active in Boy Scouts. He served as troop committee chairman, charter representative and chairman of Friends of Scouting. He was an organizer of the Camp Eastman Development Association.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Ed (Barb) Caldwell of Toledo, Ohio and Scott Caldwell of Plano, Texas; a brother, the Rev. Gary Caldwell of Mt. Pleasant; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
