Area teams start back up next week

It has been a quiet week in the world of Henry County high school sports, but the action will pick back up Monday as the teams bring in the new year.
Mt. Pleasant fans will get to see all three of their teams in action next week and all three will be at home over a five-day stretch.
The Mt. Pleasant girls will tip things off in Solon on Monday, Jan. 2, at 7:30 p.m., before returning home for a conference matchup against Washington on Friday, Jan. 6, at 7:45 p.m.
The boys’ basketball team will host Iowa City high on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 7:30 p.m., in a game that was pushed back one day from its original schedule. After that they will hit the road to play at Washington three days later.
The newly-ranked No. 22 Mt. Pleasant wrestling team will be at home on Thursday, Jan. 5, to take on Mediapolis, at 6:30 p.m.
Iowa Wesleyan will have a busy week of conference play with two home doubleheaders. On Wednesday, Jan 4., the Tigers will host Webster University, at 6 p.m. IW will then have a three-day rest before a doubleheader against Greenville College on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 1 p.m.
New London basketball will have three games on the first week after break. The Tigers will travel to Holy Trinity on Tuesday, Jan. 3, before coming home on Friday, Jan. 6, to play Highland. New London will host Winfield-Mt. Union one day later, on Saturday, Jan. 7.
The first two nights will start at 6 p.m., but Saturday’s game against W-MU will have an early start time of 2 p.m.
Before taking on New London on Saturday, the W-MU basketball teams will host Mediapolis for a doubleheader on Tuesday, Jan. 3, and host Lone Tree on Friday, Jan. 6. Both doubleheaders will start at 6 p.m.
WACO will have two games next week. The Warriors will travel to Cardinal on Tuesday, Jan. 3, and host Central Lee on Friday, Jan. 6. Those games will also have a 6 p.m., start time with the girls playing first in all games mentioned.
The Columbus/W-MU, New London and WACO wrestling teams will also be back in action next week. The three teams will join Lone Tree for a quad in Wayland on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 6 p.m.
