Arlene Dumse, 96, New London, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, at Elliott Chapel, New London. The Rev. Leonard Schantz will officiate. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery, New London. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. at the chapel, with the family greeting friends from 10 a.m. until time of the service. A memorial has been established for the Christian Appalachian Society and the Heifer Project.
She was born June 28, 1916, in Spalding, Neb., and was the daughter of the Rev. William J. and Jewel Jones Primrose. She attended school in Spalding and graduated from St. Paul High School, St. Paul, Neb. She attended St. Paul Business College, YMCA College in Baltimore, Maryland, and George Washington University in Washington, D.C. On June 12, 1943 she married Perle J. Dumse. He preceded her in death.Before she married, she worked in the courthouse in St. Paul as a typist and stenographer, and then for Civil Service in the Personnel Recruitment office in Baltimore and in Washington D. C. as a clerk typist. She moved with her husband to New London and then to Orchard, and then later returned to
She was active at Harmony Bible Church. She enjoyed entertaining, sewing, cooking and spending time with friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Doris (Gary) Reynolds of Schaumburg, Ill., and Betten (Tom) Hoover of Maple Grove, Minn.; one son, Randy (Pam) Dumse of Winnsboro, Texas; three granddaughters and one grandson; one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, and one brother.
