Arlene M. Troyer
Arlene M. Troyer, 87, Kalona, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m. at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona with the Revs. Don Patterson and Steve Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, October 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Coralville Fire Department, Kalona First Repsonder’s and Iowa City Hospice.

She was born June 18, 1926, in Mt. Pleasant, and was the daughter of Lee and Emma (Wyse) Swartzendruber. She attended Eicher rural school and graduated from Wayland High School in 1944. On May 6, 1947, she married Paul Troyer. She worked at Country Lane Eggs and was a bookkeeper at the Kalona Oil Company for several years. She was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church where she was active in the Mennonite Women’s group. She was also a member of the Wellman Quilter’s Guild. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, hand embroidery, puzzles, gardening, flowers, baking and cooking.
She is survived by her husband; four children, Gordon (Juanita) Troyer of Kalona, Maxine (Duane) Mast of Kalona, Kenny (Kate) Troyer of Solon, Debra (David) Stannard of Coralville; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Gingerich of Kalona and Wilma Knepp of Iowa City.
Preceding her in death were her parents and a stillborn brother.
