Art Center of Burlington presents Battle of the Brushes: Live Painting Competition
Six local artists will be bringing their creativity, brushes and competitive spirit for a timed, live painting competition on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, in the Gallery of the Art Center.
Artists will paint an original piece of art in front of a live audience in just three hours. The subject and theme to be painted is revealed just minutes before the painting begins at 4 p.m.
The artists include Kathleen Almelien, Mary Birdsell, David Garrison, James Walker Henry, Susan Reinier and Douglas Rutzen. They will be competing for a cash prize.
At the end of the evening, all six paintings will be raffled off as a fundraiser for the Art Center. The money raised from raffle tickets will go towards scholarships for promising students who do not have the financial means to attend an art class, as well as the center’s Artscapes program, which provides art as therapy for adults with special needs.
The Gallery Lounge will be open with light appetizers, wine and beer available for purchase. Jared Rouggley will provide live acoustic music.
Founded 50 years ago by a group of dedicated artists and others who appreciate the arts, the Art Center offers adult and kid classes, monthly gallery exhibits, a selection of wine and beer in the Gallery Lounge, original artwork for sale in the Artists Market, as well as other fun opportunities for families like Miracle on Jefferson Street, and Snake Alley Art Fair.
