Basketball postseason assignments announced
The Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union has released regional basketball brackets and the Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced assignments for substate boys’ basketball.
In Class 4A Region 5, the Mt. Pleasant girls will host a game against Fairfield on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.
The winner of that game goes on to play Class 4A No. 13 Oskaloosa, which has a first-round bye, on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in Oskaloosa.
On the other side of Region 5 bracket, Grinnell will play Clear Creek-Amana, with the winner facing Benton.
The regional championship will be played in Marengo on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.
The Mt. Pleasant boys are in Class 3A Substate 5, along with Clear Creek-Amana, Fairfield, Ft. Madison, Keokuk, Solon, Washington and Williamsburg. Pairings will be released later.
For the Class 1A girls, Winfield-Mt. Union, New London and WACO are all in Region 4.
W-MU and New London meet in the first round of regional play at 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 in Winfield. WACO opens against Harmony, and that game will be played in Wayland at 7 p.m. on Feb. 7.
The winners of those two games will play in Winfield on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m., and that winner moves on to the regional semifinal at Burlington Notre Dame on Feb. 15.
Other teams in Region 4 are Danville, Holy Trinity, Burlington Notre Dame, Lone Tree, Cedar Valley Christian, Lisbon, Springville, Preston, Prince of Peace and Calamus-Wheatland.
For Class 1A boys, New London, Winfield-Mt. Union and WACO are all in District 9, along with top-ranked Danville, Harmony, Holy Trinity Catholic, Keota, Maharishi, Pekin and Van Buren. Pairings will be released later.
