Clifford Shafer, 80, of Nora Springs, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at Nora Springs Care Center.
Per his wish, cremation rites have been accorded under the direction of Sheckler Colonial Chapels, 114 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs.
A visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main St., Mt. Pleasant.

Shafer was born on June 7, 1936, the son of Clarence (Jake) and Elizabeth (Westerbeck) Shafer. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High, class of 1954. He joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged when his father died. He married Carlene (Wolfe) on Aug. 12, 1967, in Las Vegas, Nev.
During his life, Shafer worked 27 years and retired from the Medium Security Mental Health Institution in Mt. Pleasant as a carpenter and maintenance man.
He was an avid fisher and hunter and enjoyed golfing, bowling and horseshoes. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren at their sporting events and activities.
Shafer is survived by his wife, Carlene, of Nora Springs; son, Bill (Barbara) Shafer, of Nora Springs; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Delores Booton, Evelyn (Mansel) Beavers, of Mt. Pleasant, and Patty Morrow, of Fontana, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Robin Lynette Shafer; son, Robert Graf; and sister, Sandra Shafer.
