Conrad earns degree
Amelia Conrad of Mt. Pleasant graduated summa cum laude from Tulane University in New Orleans on May 18. The daughter of Tim and Karen Conrad of Mt. Pleasant, she majored in international development and political science with a concentration in international relations and a minor in Spanish. She is interested in international development, poverty and social justice issues.
During her four years at Tulane, Conrad was on the Newcomb-Tulane College dean’s list, which recognizes superior academic achievement. In addition, she was enrolled in the Newcomb Scholars Program, a prestigious four-year program that fosters scholarly research and civic engagement in a select group of undergraduate women.
Conrad is the recipient of several awards, including the Tulane 34 Award, the Top Public Service Student Award and the Oak Wreath. She was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society and was the senior speaker at Under the Oaks, a ceremony hosted each year by the Newcomb College Institute during Commencement week.
In addition to her scholastic accomplishments, she played intramural soccer, served on the Wall Community Service Committee, worked as a tutor and belonged to the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.
Earlier this year, she led an alternative spring break trip to Peru to work in a shelter for girls in the Andes. She also volunteered with Girls on the Run and other service projects.
