County firms, groups net grants, loans
Three Henry County governmental bodies and organizations recently received federal grants and loans, announced U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa.
The City of Mt. Pleasant received a grant of $203,515 to construct a snow removal building at the Mt. Pleasant Municipal Airport. Earlier this month, Harkin announced that the airport received a grant over $100,000 for snow removal equipment.
Henry County Health Center received a $495,000 grant and a $300,000 loan to purchase equipment for the surgical and medical departments. Harkin said the money will create three jobs and help retain other positions. The award was actually made to Access Energy Cooperative as a pass-through to the health center.
Access Energy also received a $300,000 pass-through loan to be given to the Wayland Industrial Corporation for land for a new industrial park.
The loans and grants were announced yesterday by Harkin’s staff. Funding comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant program.
