County jobless rate drops more than half a percent

Henry County unemployment dropped by over half a percentage point in April, finishing at 5.2 percent, compared with 5.9 percent in March.

Nearly all Iowa counties showed a drop in jobless rates. Statewide, unemployment was at 4.7 percent, compared with 4.9 percent in March.

The latest unemployment figures for area counties, multi-county micropolitan areas and cities follow (March figure listed first followed by April figure).

Counties — Appanoose, 6.7, 6.2; Davis, 6.5, 5.4; Des Moines, 6.3, 5.6; Jefferson, 5.8, 5.4; Keokuk, 6.0, 4.7; Lee, 7.7, 6.5; Louisa, 5.5, 4.3; Muscatine, 5.2, 4.8; Van Buren, 6.3, 5.9; Wapello, 6.5, 6.0; Washington, 4.4, 3.4.

Multi-county micropolitan areas — Burlington, 6.5, 5.6; Fort Madison-Keokuk, 7.8, 6.6; Muscatine, 5.3, 4.7.

Cities — Ottumwa, 6.4, 6.2.

The nation’s April unemployment rate was 7.5, compared with 7.6 percent in March.
