County jobless rate falls by one tenth of one percent

Henry County unemployment fell by one-tenth of one percent during November, according to the statistics released this week by Iowa Workforce Development.

County unemployment was 5.5 percent in November compared to 5.6 percent in October. Most Iowa counties saw a slight drop in the jobless rate as statewide, unemployment fell to 4.9 percent in November from 5.1 in October.

Following is the jobless rate for neighboring counties, multi-county micropolitan areas and cities (October rate listed followed by November rate).

Counties: Davis, 5.5, 6.1; Des Moines, 5.7, 5.8; Jefferson, 5.6, 5.8; Johnson, 3.3, 3.2; Keokuk, 4.5, 4.4; Lee, 7.8, 7.6; Muscatine, 5.0, 5.0; Van Buren, 5.5, 6.2. Wapello, 6.4, 6.4; Washington, 3.5, 3.4.

Multi-county micropolitan areas: Burlington, 5.9, 6.0; Ft. Madison-Keokuk, 7.6, 7.3; Muscatine, 5.0, 5.0;

Cities: Burlington, 5.9, 5.9; Ottumwa, 7.0, 6.7.

Nationwide, unemployment fell in November to 7.7 percent from October’s 7.9 percent.
