The United Church Women met at the church at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, for their annual Christmas potluck dinner.
Fourteen members and one guest, Betty Gipple from Washington, were present. A new member, Christina Collier, was welcomed.
Two parables, “Born in a Barn” and “Just a Little Donkey” were read by Frieda Finke. Finke offered some of the ways she had helped others and they served as a good reminder of how the blessings we have can also be shared with others.
The meeting was called to order by President Debbie Lowe. Members read the Opening Creed together.
There were no minutes available from the November meeting.
Correspondence was read by Donna Fletcher. Thank you notes were received from many that had gotten “goodie boxes” filled and delivered by the UCW/Dorcas ladies.
Acknowledgments were also received from the recipients of the financial giving that was dispersed from the UCW treasury in November and of the memorials received fom the Lois Coon and Jack Erwin families.
The treasurer’s report was given by Pat Miller with various bills paid and proceeds noted.
Local activities committe: 2013 progam books were distributed.
Dorcas: Meetings will resume in January at the home of Wilma McAllister.
It was noted that servicemen with ties to the Crawfordsville community and the United Church of Crawfordsville members had been remembered at this Christmas time. Billie Jo Rose reported sending sympathy and get well cards.
Old busines: Bills were submitted for items needed for the church nursery and a service to the parsonage.
There was no new business.
The meeting closed with members reciting the Closing Creed in unison.
The family of Merl and Frieda Finke got together for an early Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 9.
Those attending were: Phil and Barb Deats of Clive; Andrew and Kelly Finke and Kathy Hill, all of Des Moines; David, Tiffany Finke, Carter, Reece and Cooper of Wayerly; Bill and Cindy Finke, Jabe and Dana, Tristan and Alex Toben, all of Winfield; Kiley Finke, Josh and Jackson of Cedar Rapids and Cheryl Stagner of Cedar Rapids.
An early family Christmas celebration was held at the home of Wilma McAllister on Saturday, Dec. 16.
Those who attended were: Tom and Ruth McAllister and Mark and Dawn Wilkerson, Trent and Afton, all from Crawfordsville; Steve and Chris Williams, Zack and Rachel Williams, Ben and Tessa, all from Ananmosa, Justin and Steph Keeton from the Kansas City area, Jeff Williams from DeWitt and Dale and Eunice Cox from Swedesburg.
