Arvid and Joan Anderson attended the Lions District 9SE Convention at the Catholic Church McAleer Hall in Ft. Madison on Saturday, April 13.
In the afternoon session of the convention, Arvid was recognized as a 60-year Charter member of the Crawfordsville Lions Club.
A letter was read by District Governor DeEtta Rasmussson and signed by Lions International President Wayne Madden recognizing his 60-year membership.
Arvid served many years ago as president of the Crawfordsville Lions Club and later as zone chairperson of Lions District 9B and cabinet secretary-treasurer for the district governor.
In 1994, he was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.
Larry and Donna Fletcher spent the weekend of April 20 at Bill Zuber’s Hotel in Homestead observance of their 50th wedding anniversary which was Sunday, April 28.
On Sunday, they were joined for brunch at the Ox Yoke Inn in the Amana Colonies by their daughter and husband and sons, Pam and Steve Green, Fletcher and Jacob of Washington and their son and wife and family, Brad and Carol Fletcher, Clint and Emma of Cedar Falls.
The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, April 22, at 7 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Community Room. There were nine members present.
In the absence of Lion President Steve Williams, Lion First Vice-President Larry Fletcher took the gavel. He led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and called on Lion Larry Love to give the invocation. The minutes from the April 8 meeting were read and approved. Lion Treasurer Randy Finke gave the treasurer’s report.
Correspondence: Members of the club are invited to the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club Charter Banquet on May 4. All were encouraged to attend to support local Lions Clubs.
Lion Randy Finke gave a report on the District Convention. He mentioned that state and international dues most likely will be increased. That brought forth the question whether or not local club dues will need to be raised. This will addressed at a later date.
Old business: A reminder that the car show is June 1 at the ball park. The local club will be handling the concession stand. It was moved, seconded and approved to move the second May meeting from May 27 to May 20 at 6 p.m. to clean up the ball park.
The May 13 dinner meeting will feature international exchange student Stefanie Aerni from Switzerland, who is making her home with Pastor and Mrs. Jason Collier and family.
