Crime of the century in Lee County?
To the editor:
While our sensationalist media is fixated on the Pistorius murder trial in South Africa, crime drama has unfolded here in Southeast Iowa.
That’s right! The Lee County crime of the century has grabbed the headlines!
Prosecutors have honed their case, lawyers are counting billable hours, the judge in district court is on the bench and…we’re ready to try a woman who, well....voted.
Yes, it seems some poor soul in Montrose, (pop. 898) failed to follow Iowa’s convoluted, herky-jerky history of how we treat voting by ex-felons and went to the polls on election day.
In fact, this deviant committed the heinous act few commit by voting in a municipal election. We can only guess as to her evil motives. Shame!
Time to pay up! Voting in rural Iowa has caught up with this recalcitrant as robbing banks did Bonnie and Clyde.
Let’s pack the courtroom. The prosecutor says she can do five years in the penitentiary.
Let’s get on with it! Elliott Ness would be proud!
