Dale Garrett, 87, Wayland, died Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Finley Chapel in rural Wayland with the Rev. Betsey Sue Niepert officiating. Burial will follow at the Finley Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28, from noon to 7 p.m. at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Finely Cemetery Association.
He was born March 11, 1926 in Giltner, Neb., and was the son of A.F. and Emma (Bailey) Garrett. He graduated from high school in Kewanee, Ill. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952. On June 17, 1956, he married Carol Boese. He was a farmer and after retirement he delivered wood splitters all over the country. He was a member of Finley Chapel and was a woodworker and farm equipment fabricator. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Survivors include his wife of Wayland; three sons, Thomas Dale (Teri) Garrett of Colorado Springs, Colo., Curt (Tina) Garrett of Mt. Pleasant, Mark (Karen) Garrett of Wayland; one daughter; Beth (David) Wirka of Wahoo, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and one brother; Ronald Garrett of Alton, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Boyd Garrett.
