David W. Long, 83, Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at his home in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, at St. Alphonusus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Father Joseph Phung officiating. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial may be directed to the Great River Hospice in his memory. He was born on Aug. 23, 1930, in Center Township the son of William Isaac and Elizabeth Marie Krohn Long. He married Neva Prieto on October 27, 1956. He had worked at the A.C.F. in Albuquerque for 13 years before moving back to the Mt. Pleasant area where he began to work at the Iowa Ammunition Plant in Middletown retiring in 1993. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife; his children, Vivian (Randy) Baxter of Mt. Pleasant, Dwayne (Jackie) Long of Missouri, Bonnie Auwerda of Mt. Pleasant, Neva Irene Smith of Mt. Pleasant and Robert (Vida) Long of Mt. Pleasant; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Raymond Charles Long; two brothers, Raymond and Ralph; and one sister, Elizabeth Sanders.
