Deputy thwarts potential kidnapping
While investigating a report of a possible kidnapping of a female subject, the Henry County Sheriff’s office arrested Denair Byars, 28, Cicero, Ill., on Jan. 2, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 4:30 p.m. yesterday, the sheriff’s office received a report that a female subject was inside a white Volvo semi-truck and allegedly being abused by a male subject and headed into Henry County. The vehicle was then located by a Henry County deputy sheriff near Hy-Vee Gas in Mt. Pleasant.
According to the press release, when the deputy sheriff made contact with Byars and attempted to remove the female subject from the scene, Byars tried to prevent the deputy from doing so. The press release states that Byars resisted lawful orders from law enforcement and resisted arrest before eventually being taken into custody.
The female subject was uncooperative during the investigation, according to the release, which prevented charges from being filed on Byars for holding her against her will.
Byars will be charged with interference with official acts and several Iowa DOT-related traffic violations, said information from the sheriff’s office.
