It was lights out for roughly 1,500 Mt. Pleasant residents this morning, but thanks to the quick response of Mt. Pleasant Utilities officials, the city is up and running with full power again.
What is now being identified as a mechanical failure, cut the power of roughly 1,500 Mt. Pleasant residences Tuesday morning from 7:05 to 7:55 a.m. One third of Mt. Pleasant Utilities customers were impacted.
“A gang operated air brake failed in the alley between South Jefferson Street and South Main Street on West Warren Street,” explained Jack Hedgecock, of Mt. Pleasant Utilities. “The switch failed and caused a fault on the line.”
According to Hedgecock, the problem was quickly identified and a temporary fix was installed to restore power to all sites that lost electricity.
“The switch is still bad as of 9:30 a.m., but we have fixed it in such a way that we should be able to make the rest of the repairs while still sustaining power for everyone,” he said. “We do thank our customers for their patience.”
