DNR releases fishing report for Southeast Iowa

Mar 08, 2013

Hannen Lake

The lake has ice up to eight inches but caution should still be used if going out. No minnows are allowed here. Bluegill — fair: fish along the bottom, preferably around brush, with a jig/waxie. Crappie— fair: try in 15 feet and deeper water with jig/waxies or small spoon/waxie. Fish tend to be suspended five to 10 feet off the bottom.

Rodgers Park Lake

Ice conditions are unsafe.

Iowa Lake

There are six inches of good ice reported on much of the lake; however, the south end of the lake is open. Use caution if venturing out. Bluegill — fair. Crappie — fair.

Kent Park Lake

The lower end of the lake has poor edges and some open water. There has not been fishing activity lately and fishing is not recommended.

Lake Macbride

There are some areas of open water, many areas that have crusted over the last two weeks, and the remaining ice is extremely variable. Ice fishing is not recommended.

Pleasant Creek Lake

There are some areas of open water along the dam and north shorelines. Other shorelines are poor. Exact ice conditions are not known but should be considered poor and extremely variable. Ice fishing is not recommended.

Diamond Lake

There is a lot of open water and ice fishing is not possible.

Otter Creek Lake

Shorelines are poor in many places and some open water mainly on the east shoreline. There has been quite a bit of snow covering the ice, so caution should be used.

Union Grove Lake

The aeration system is turned on so caution should be used down towards the south end of the lake as the lower third of the lake is open or unsafe ice. The north end of the lake still has around 10 inches of ice in most areas.

Coralville Reservoir

The current lake level is 683.1 feet. There had been lots of open water around Macbride and Mehaffey Bridge that is now crusted over and the remaining ice should be considered unsafe.

Iowa River (Coralville Lake to River Junction)

Current outflow from the Coralville Dam is 230 cubic feet per second. Flows are predicted to hold steady for the near future. The water is dirty. Channel Catfish — fair: some anglers are having luck using cutbait in the Iowa City area.

Hale Ponds

Anglers should still be careful when venturing out. Bluegill —good: use a small jig/waxie.

Most areas south of Hwy. 30 are unsafe or at least have areas of unsafe ice. For more information, contact the Lake Macbride Fisheries Station at 319-624-3615.

Lake Wapello

Ice conditions have deteriorated and the ice is too thin to support anglers.

Red Haw Lake

Ice conditions have deteriorated and the ice is too thin to support anglers.

Albia (lower)

Ice conditions have deteriorated and the ice is too thin to support anglers.

Lake Sugema

Rathbun Reservoir

Don't forget Lake Rathbun contains zebra mussels so make sure to clean, drain and dry equipment before transporting to another water body.
