Dog shot during altercation at East Lake Park
An altercation Jan. 21 at East Lake Park resulted in a German shepherd-type dog being shot, according to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
Authorities responded to the incident at approximately 12:14 p.m. The investigation revealed that a dog owner was walking his Husky-type dog on the bike path on the east side of East Lake.
Another dog owner going the opposite way with two German shepherd-type dogs met and the dogs began fighting.
During an unsuccessful attempt to separate the dogs, the owner of the Husky dog shot one of the German shepherd dogs fearing that his dog would be killed. The status of the German shepherd dog, which was shot, is not known at this time.
The Husky owner did have a valid permit to carry a firearm. All the dogs were on leashes at the time of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
