Donald E. Whaley
Donald E. Whaley, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, died on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at the Henry County Health Center, in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at 10 a.m., at the Oakland Mills Community Church, with Rev. Rick Moorman officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Mills Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m., on Friday, at the Murphy Funeral Home, in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., that evening.

Whaley was born on Feb. 18, 1928, in Henry County, the son of Maynard and Alice Johnson Whaley. He was united in marriage to Martha Calhoun on Nov. 14, 1948.
He opened and operated a construction business, managed the local landfill, and then started Whaley Waste Systems in 1972. He later purchased Woodside Courts.
He attended Oakland Mills Community Church.
Whaley is survived by his wife, Martha, of Mt. Pleasant; his children, Donnie (Sally) Whaley, of Coralville, John (Kim) Whaley, of Atlanta, Ga., Deb (Bob) Lamm, of Mt. Pleasant, and Lynn (Lori) Whaley, of Mt. Pleasant; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margarette Molander, of Mt. Pleasant, and Rachael Stauffer, of Wayland.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
