Donald F. McCarty Sr. 76, Salem, died at his home on Sunday, May 5, 2013.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 9, at 11 a.m. at the Salem South Cemetery in Salem with the Rev. Aaron Helterbran officiating. Burial will be at the Salem South Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory. Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant is handling the arrangements. He was born on Nov. 25, 1936, in Argyle, the son of Floyd and Anna Huffman McCarty. He married Doris Smith on Aug. 9, 1975. He retired from Heatilator of Mt. Pleasant in 1993. He enjoyed camping, fishing, working on cars and crafting.
He is survived by his wife of Salem; his son, Donald McCarty, Jr., of Salem and his daughter, Tandee Moore of Perryville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth McCarty of Lockridge, Melvin McCarty of Texas and Mike McCarty of California; three sisters, Virginia Savage of Albia, Ruthie Strickland and Carolyn McCarty, both of California; and several half-brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons; his first wife, Sherry Wright; and one sister, Lois Roe.
