Donald S. Pool
Donald S. Pool, 89, of Eldon, died on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Hospice House, in Ottumwa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, in Living Hope Bible Church, in Eldon, with Rev. Mark Clark and Rev. Dave Albert officiating. Visitation opened at 3 p.m., on Tuesday at the church, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Eldon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Living Hope Bible Church, Eldon Senior Meals or Eldon Depot Museum, which may be left at the church or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 288, Eldon, Iowa 52554. Pedrick Funeral Home, in Keosauqua, is handling the arrangements.
Pool was born on Nov. 14, 1927, in Douds, the son of Fred C. and Opal Akerman Pool. He graduated from Selma High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Mary Ellen Sconce. They later divorced. He then married Linda Keasling Hemm on Nov. 28, 1986, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He owned and operated Pool Oil Company and Pool Fertilizer Company, both in Eldon, for many years.
He was a member of Living Hope Bible Church, in Eldon.
Pool is survived by his wife, Linda; a son, Phil Pool, of West Burlington; a daughter, Julie Ann (Gene) Sidak, of Griffin, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gladys Fite, of Floris; and Kathryn Weller, of Douds.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Pool; and two sisters, Eva Anderson Miller and Margaret Bailey.
