Doris Welcher, 79, Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at her son’s home in Athens, Ala., following an extended battle with cancer.
Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 10, at the Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Jeff McPheron officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Hospice of Limestone County in Alabama and also to the family who would like to donate a bench seat on the walking path between Linden Heights and East Lake Park. She was born on Aug. 25, 1933, in Mt. Pleasant to Linus J. Kerfus and Ruby Remick Kerfus. She attended Mt. Pleasant schools. On Feb. 4, 1971, she married Lee Welcher in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death.
For 26 years, she worked on the line at Heatilator. She spent many of those years working on assembling glass doors. She retired in 1995.
She enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed camping, planting flowers in her yard, baking, cooking, spending time with her dogs and reading romance novels. She was of the Lutheran faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Bob) McDonald of West Burlington and Janice Carpenter of Mt. Pleasant; three sons, Leonard (Ann) Ford and David Ford, both of Mt. Pleasant, and Randy (Sara) Welcher of Athens, Ala.; one sister, Loretta Hite of Mt. Pleasant; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
