Dr. Charles W. Toland
Dr. Charles W. Toland, Salem, Ore., died Jan. 9, 2014 from complications for Parkinson’s disease.
Funeral services were held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem, Ore. Memorials may be made to OHSU Parkinson’s Center of Oregon, Oregon Health Sciences University Foundation, 1121 S.W. Salmon Street, Suite 100, Portland Ore, 97205-2021.
He was born June 8, 1932 in Dickens, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1952 and then served in the Unites States Air Force as a first Lieutenant, ground air communications officer at Upper Heyford AFB in Oxford, England. Upon his return, he enrolled in the University of Iowa in pre-medical studies and graduated in 1961 with a medical degree. After four years of general practice in Mt. Pleasant, he began a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Iowa. He moved to Salem, Ore. In 1969. He was a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
He enjoyed singing in the choir at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Iowa Hawkeyes, golfing and his pets.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Connie and Anne (Len); son, Kent (Nancy) Toland; grandchildren; brothers, Donald and Ardon.
He was preceded in death by his son, Cary.
