Dwayne E. Logan, 77, Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at the Henry County Health Center.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 21, beginning after noon, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Revs. David Plooster and Rod Cooper officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Mt. Pleasant Cal Ripken League or the Mt. Pleasant Schools Camp Courageous Fund. Born April 18, 1936, near Hillsboro, he was the son of Errette Coleman and Margaret Augusta Delabar Logan. He attended grade school at Columbia School in Lee County and was a 1953 graduate of Donnellson High School. He continued his education at Iowa State University, Southeastern Community College, and Iowa Wesleyan College. Dwayne was a member of the United States Marine Corps and served in the National Guard, 224th Engineering Battalion, for 12 years. On Aug. 22, 1959, he married Lila Suzanne Myers.

He worked for Henry County as a truck driver and as a material checker at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 10 years. In 1975, he became director of transportation for the Mt. Pleasant Community School District. He retired in 1998. Following retirement, he drove the Owl’s Nest bus for five years. For a short time in the early 1990s, he and his wife owned and operated Carealot Daycare and Preschool.

He coached Little League and served as a Boy Scout leader in Mt. Pleasant and at Camp Eastman. He liked to fish, hunt mushrooms and collect Native American artifacts. He was a member of First Baptist Church and most recently was a member of New London Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Tim Logan of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Teresa (Mark) Schneider of Chaska, Minn., and Suzanne (Lonnie) Staats of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Dean Logan of St. Louis, Mo.; and a sister, Yvonne (Aaron) Glidewell of Ft. Madison; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
