Education headlines first legislative briefing
Education will be the primary topic of the first legislative briefing, set for Saturday, of the 2013 legislative session.
State Rep. Dave Heaton, R-Mt. Pleasant, and State Sen. Rich Taylor, D-Mt. Pleasant, are slated to attend the forum. Pat Coen, superintendent of the Winfield-Mt. Union and WACO School districts, will serve as moderator.
The briefing will run from 8:30-10 a.m. in the Chadwick Library’s International Room. The Chadwick Library is located on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan College (East Broad Street).
Formats for the briefings include discussion of the primary topic for the first 45 minutes followed by discussion on other state topics during the final 45 minutes.
Mt. Pleasant’s briefings are hosted by the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance’s Government Affairs Committee.
Primary topics and dates for the remaining three briefings are as follows:
Saturday, Feb. 23 — Taxation;
Saturday, March 23 — Economic development;
Saturday, April 27 — Session-in-review panel discussion.
