Edward Francis Schinstock, 82, Houghton, died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the West Point Care Center.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary recited at 3 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. The family will meet with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton with Father Bruce DeRammelaere as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Houghton with full military rights by the Holtz-Geers American Legion Post #668 of West Point. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lee County Hospice or the Houghton Knights of Columbus.

Born Dec. 4, 1931, near Houghton, he was the son of Theodore and Margaret (Stuekerjuergen) Schinstock. On Nov. 27, 1954, he married Rosanna Stohlmeier.

He was a farmer northeast of Houghton and he sold Pfister Seed for over 45 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Korea. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton where he sang in the choir and had served on the parish council. He was a member of the Houghton Knights of Columbus Council #3905 where he was a past Grand Knight and served as District Deputy for two terms. He was a member of Gallitzin Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He helped at the monthly Houghton Knights of Columbus fish fries for over 35 years. He served on the FSA Board, was a past director of the Pilot Grove Savings Bank, and he served as Marion Township Trustee. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, mowing, farming, woodworking and being with his family.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Larry (Sue) Schinstock of Salem, Dale (Terri) Schinstock of Urbandale, Ken Schinstock of Salem, and Randy (Sharon) Schinstock of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Kathy (Wayne) Walljasper of St. Paul; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Joan Margaret; two brothers, Casper and John Schinstock; and three sisters, Marie Moeller, Ann Beach and Pauline Meierotto.
