Eight runs not enough for Panthers
ALBIA — The Mt. Pleasant baseball team posted eight runs, but it still wasn’t enough to overcome host Albia in a nonconference contest on Wednesday night.
The Panthers scored one in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth, but Albia scored at least one run in each of the first six innings — including three in the second and three in the sixth — for a 12-8 win.
Panther hitters were led by Justin Dilks, who went 3-for-4 with a double, 2 RBIs and two runs scored. Jacob Dilks was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Devyn Broeker and Justin Dilks split time on the mound, with Dilks taking the loss. Broeker went the first three innings, giving up four hits for seven runs (five earned). He walked seven and struck out one. Justin Dilks went the last three innings, giving up eight hits for five earned runs.
The Panthers are now 5-7 overall and 3-1 in the SEC. They host a doubleheader against conference foe Keokuk tonight at 5:30 p.m.
