Eighth-grade football blanks Fairfield
The Mt. Pleasant eighth-grade football “A” and “B” teams shut out Fairfield on Tuesday. The A team won by a score of 38-0, and the B team topped the Trojans, 34-0.
In the A game, Brady Sartorius had seven carries for 52 yards and two touchdowns. Jordan Magnani carried eight times for 48 yards and a touchdown, while Isaac Kuster ran the ball four times and scored on a two-point conversion. Colin Mulford and Kieren Kohorst also scored on two-point conversions.
Sartorius was 7-of-16 passing for 147 yards and connected with Magnani for a touchdown. Maison Ashton had two catches for 73 yards in the contest.
Defensively, Payton Kelly led the team in tackles with six, followed by Colby Potts and Tanner Ruby with five each. Kohorst had four tackles.
Kuster returned an interception for a touchdown. Caleb Potts also had an interception.
In the B game, Keegan Rich had three carries for 60 yards and a touchdown, and he threw to Joseph Coberly for another touchdown.
Chad West rushed four times for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Cole Burns took a punt return to the house for the team’s other score.
Ryan Walljasper and Rich led the team in tackles with five each.
James Lobdell and Briton Ensminger had four tackles apiece. Ensminger also recovered a fumble. William Banks had an interception.
The Mt. Pleasant teams will play again Tuesday at Keokuk.
