Eighth-grade girls’ “A” team stays undefeated

The Mt. Pleasant girls’ eighth-grade “A” team stayed undefeated this week, picking up wins over Ft. Madison and Aldo Leopold after taking down Keokuk last Thursday.

The Panthers dropped Keokuk and Ft. Madison at home and won, 35-19, in each game. They moved to 6-0 with a 27-20 win over Aldo Leopold this Thursday on the road.

The Panthers dominated the first three quarters against Keokuk. They led 14-4 after one quarter, 21-7 at halftime and 28-10 after three quarters en route to their 35-19 victory.

Emma Rugg had 14 points in the win. Avery Sutter scored eight. Elli Liechty had seven, and Karsyn Lamm finished with two.

The Bloodhounds played the Panthers tough through he first quarter but Mt. Pleasant still lead 8-5. The Panthers stretched the lead to 18-7 at halftime and 32-11 after there quarters, eventually winning 35-19.

Rugg had 10 points in the win over Ft. Madison. Sutter had nine. Emma Huckabone scored six and the duo of Lamm and Liechty had four apiece.

Mt. Pleasant held a lead throughout the game against Aldo Leopold. They led, 6-2 after one quarter, 18-8 at halftime and 23-16 after three quarters, before taking it, 27-20.

During that stretch, the “B” team went 1-1-1. They fell, 14-12, to Keokuk, tied, 14-14, to Ft. Madison and won, 18-8 over Aldo Leopold.

The Panthers and Chiefs battled to a 12-12 tie in their game but two Keokuk points in overtime gave them the two-point victory. Nicole Hill had three points to lead Mt. Pleasant.

Mt. Pleasant led, 12-10, going into the fourth quarter of the “B” game against Ft. Madison, but the Bloodhounds tied it at 14-14 in the fourth and nobody was able to break the tie. Ackles led again, with six points.

The Panthers were able to win their fourth “B” game against Aldo Leopold, 18-8, after leading 8-3 at halftime, to move to 4-1-1. Ackles had eight points. Christina Carthey scored four and Nicole Hill had two.
