Engineer sets Aug. 23 as date for opening Grand Avenue from Monroe to Baker streets
Plans are to open Grand Avenue to traffic from Monroe to Baker Street on Friday, Aug. 23, according to Warner Engineering Associates Inc. of Mt. Pleasant, the engineering firm for the project.
Meanwhile, the Winfield Avenue and Grand intersection will be closed to east-west traffic on Sept. 3. Traffic will be maintained exiting to the north on the east side of Grand from Winfield and entering south on the west side of Grand onto Winfield.
All semi traffic is urged to enter Mt. Pleasant on Washington Street instead of using the Grand exit.
When work begins on Sept. 3, the only intersection closed will be the Winfield and Grand intersection to east/west traffic. The intersection will be closed approximately three weeks.
The main line on Grand from Mapleleaf Drive to the railroad overpass has been poured. Mike Nelson Construction is sealing joins today (Mon.) and will be finishing the sidewalk on the west side of Grand from Mapleleaf to Baker Street.
The seeding crew will be moving in later this week to begin grass seeding from the railroad overpass to Baker Street. The paint crew will begin the striping and symbols placement Aug. 15, which is expected to take a day.
Warner Engineering said the plan is to open the Mapleleaf and Grand intersection on Friday evening.
