Ethel Pauline Ranck
Ethel Pauline Ranck, 89, of New London, died on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, in the Emergency Room at Henry County Health Center.
Funeral services for Ranck will be held at 3 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Elliott Chapel, in New London. Pastor Aimee Goldmeyer will officiate. According to her wishes, she will be cremated following the service, with inurnment to be held at a later date. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., on Wednesday, at the chapel. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
Ranck was born on June 13, 1927, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of James Owen and Gladys Birdie Jackson Pickard. On June 9, 1946, she married Wilbur l. “Web” Ranck, in Jefferson County. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School.
She was a farm wife. She also worked in housekeeping at Mt. Pleasant Hospital after high school; at Metromail for over five years; and at Wal-Mart until her retirement at the age of 79.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, search and find puzzles, mowing her yard, feeding the deer, collecting and decorating doll houses, watching the animals at Smoky Mountain National Park, in Tennessee, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ranck is survived by her daughters, Geraldine “Gerry” (Paul) Dickerson, of West Liberty, and Penney (Terry) Smith, of Danville; her son, James “LeRoy” (Sandra) Ranck, of Burlington; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Roberta (Harold) Fraise, of Danville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Milton, Cecil, Dale, and Dwayne; and three sisters, Selma Kennedy, Lena Mae Hollowell, and Wilma Martsching.
