Eugene Raymond Baker
Eugene Raymond Baker, 88, Winfield, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 10, at 11 a.m. at the Olds United Church of Christ. Private family burial will be prior to the service at Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will meet with friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
A memorial has been established for Sunrise Terrace Care Center.
The son of Raymond and Velma (Holley) Baker, he was born Sept. 9, 1924, on the family farm in rural Winfield. On June 11, 1948, he married Imogene Watson. She preceded him in death. He attended country school and graduated from Winfield High School in 1942. He was a dairy farmer, living on and working the farm for 66 years before turning the operation over to his son. He was a former WACO school board president. He was a fast pitch softball pitcher in earlier years. He was an avid bowler and a Chicago Cubs fan. He was an active member of the Olds United Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Kent Baker of Winfield; two daughters, Barbara Pankoke of St. Charles, Ill., and Linda Baker of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Lou Peterson of Olds.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters.
