Florence F. Carson
Florence F. Carson, 70, Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, in West Burlington at Great River Hospice House.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Oct. 22, beginning after noon, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Memorial Chapel, on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Aaron Lotzow officiating. Born July 22, 1943, in Haliimaile, Hawaii on the Island of Maui, she was the daughter of James Koichi and Tatsue Sawada Matsuura. She graduated from Maui High School and business college in Honolulu. She married Robert G. Stewart and then Glenn M. Carson. The couples each divorced.
A telephone operator and a part of the sales team, she worked for Contel and later GTE. After her retirement in 1996 from the telephone company, she continued to work. She was employed by Metro Group and then Primus in Fairfield.
She was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was fond of playing cards, watching television, monthly luncheons with retired co-workers and working with and attending craft shows.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Rick Potter) Stewart of Burlington; a son, Rodney (Melissa) Stewart of Mt. Pleasant; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant grandson; one sister, Peggy Aynes; and four brothers, Yukito, Kenji, Yutaka, and Haruo Matsuura.
