Freshmen fighting through tough, busy schedule
The Mt. Pleasant freshman boys’ basketball team recently played three games in just four days, taking on Washington last Friday, hosting Burlington on Saturday and competing against Mid-Prairie on Monday.
Against Washington, the Panthers fell in a 36-33 decision. It was close the whole way, but Mt. Pleasant couldn’t quite take a lead.
Joe Hess scored 11 to lead the team. Darren Hunter added eight points and Alex Carrasco scored seven. Levi Stevens chipped in five points and Cale Christner tallied two.
In Saturday’s “A” game, the Panthers fell to Burlington by a score of 42-28. Their leading scorer was Tyler Batten with 11 points, and Carrasco added seven. He was followed by Hess with five points, Keegan Pullis with three and Dylan Bloom with two.
In the “B” game against Burlington, the Panthers lost by a score of 47-9. Ben Rauenbuehler had four points for Mt. Pleasant; Derek Braun chipped in three and Cori Fitten scored two.
The Panthers didn’t fare any better against Mid-Prairie, losing to the Hawks by a score of 48-43.
Pullis had a team-high 14 points for Mt. Pleasant in the game; Hess was also in double figures with 10 points. Bloom contributed seven points to the Panthers’ efforts and Carrasco chipped in five. Jack Davis scored four points and Stevens added three.
The freshman boys continue their busy schedule with games on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday they kick off a freshman/JV/varsity tripleheader at Fairfield, and on Saturday they are playing an A/B game at Iowa City West, starting at 9 a.m.
