Fricke, Davis, 4x400 take first at Indian Relays
WAPELLO — Max Fricke, the Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ track and field 4x400-meter relay team, and Kyle Davis claimed first-place finishes at the Indian Relays in Wapello on Tuesday night, leading the Wolves to a fourth-place finish in the 13-team field.
Fricke won the open 400 in a time of 52.79 seconds, and then anchored the 4x400 team, which also includes legs by Kyler Smith, Bryce Robison and Levi Giese, to a 3:39.27 finish.
Giese also scored for the Wolves in the open 400, taking fourth place with a time of 55.74 seconds.
Kyle Davis was crowned champion in shot put with a throw of 45-1 1/2.
The Wolves scored in three other events for a team total of 44 points.
West Burlington won the meet with 108 points, followed by Mediapolis (100), West Liberty (45) and W-MU.
The Wolves finished ahead of host Wapello (41), as well as teams from Lone Tree (37 1/2), Wilton (37), Ft. Madison (36), Columbus (33), Central Lee (31), Washington (17), West Branch (16 1/2) and Durant (12).
Other scorers for the Wolves were Gavin Bencze, who took fourth in the 3,200- and the 1,600-meter run with times of 10:58.40 and 5:12.48, respectively.
Jon Quinn finished sixth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:17.34, and the distance medley team of Robison, Giese, Fricke and Quinn was sixth in a time of 4:10.81.
The Wolves will run again today (Thursday) at the Denny White Relays hosted by Mt. Pleasant at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.
Mt. Pleasant, New London and WACO boys’ track and field teams will also compete in the meet, which begins at 4:30 p.m.
