Ft. Madison encourages MP fans to attend game
FT. MADISON — Many fans of the local sports team usually hope that, for a home game, the other team’s fans get lost on the way to the gym. That’s the point of the home crowd advantage.
But Ft. Madison High School Boys’ Basketball Coach Jon Schmitz is hoping for a tournament-style atmosphere Friday when the Bloodhounds host Mt. Pleasant for a Southeast Conference game.
As a result, the Bloodhounds extend an invitation to all Mt. Pleasant fans who would not otherwise be going to the girls’ home game to make the trip to Ft. Madison.
Ft. Madison is hoping to “pack the place,” as in, come as close to filling the 1,200-seat gym as possible.
Mt. Pleasant Coach Paul Rundquist said, “We’ve got a good fan following,” and FMHS will be doing its part.
That means fans who normally show up in time for the varsity game may have a long walk on a cold night.
The freshman game will be at 4:45 p.m., followed by the JV game and then the varsity contest. Earlier this season at Mt. Pleasant, Ft. Madison won the first two games and fell short of upsetting the Panthers by nine in the varsity contest.
Fans on both sides are encouraged to come early to the FMHS gym and cheer loudly, even during the freshman and JV games, as a “tune-up” for what should be an exciting varsity contest.
