Gaylon Gene Fear
Gaylon Gene Fear, 74, Olds, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the Olds United Church of Christ, with the Revs. Carl and Elaine Vass officiating. Burial will follow at the Asbury Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will meet with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Olds United Church of Christ.
The son of Ray and Eva (Abbott) Fear, he was born May 6, 1938, at Hartley. On Aug. 30, 1959, he married Marlys Puhrmann at Paullina. He was a graduate of the Gaza High School and attended Iowa State University for two years. He was manager of the Hartley Monsanto plant before moving to Olds. He retired after 29 years working for Land O’ Lakes. He also worked as a bookkeeper for L.J. Roth. He was a former Cub Scout leader and former Olds city clerk. He was a member of the Olds United Church of Christ where he served as church treasurer.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Gloria (Randy White) Fear of Mt. Pleasant; two sons, Alan (Missy) Fear of Winfield, and Kent Fear of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, LaVonne VanderSluis of Sheldon and Karen Yanney of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
