Geraldine D. "Gerri" Mathews
Geraldine D. “Gerri” Mathews, 71, Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center in New London.
The family will receive friends from 9 until 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. There will not be a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the family. Online condolences may be sent to www.olsonpowell.com .
Born Feb. 6, 1942, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of James L. and Evelyn Helen (Moody) May. Her formative years were spent in San Diego, Calif., where she graduated from Kearney High School. She later earned her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from Southeastern Community College. She married Richard Marrs. The couple divorced. She later married Gary E Meth, Sr. They also divorced.
She resided in Santee, Calif. for 15 years. She moved to Mt. Pleasant 33 years ago and began working as a charge nurse at Sunrise Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Winfield. She retired from this position in 2003.
She enjoyed doing word find puzzles and crocheting blankets.
Survivors include four children, Sherry (Randy) Carver of Mt. Pleasant, Terry Carver of Washington, Gary (Jennifer) Meth, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, and Jerry Meth of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and two brothers, James (Joann) Brotner of Lakeside, Calif., and Chuck (Teri) May of Santee, Calif.
