Girl Scouts share cookies, tea with SunnyBrook residents
On March 12, Girl Scout Troop 9146 enjoyed cookies, coffee and hot tea with the residents of SunnyBrook as part of the “Troop 2 Share” program, in which donated cookies are shared with local organizations. SunnyBrook was chosen because two of the troop members have a great aunt living there.
After the tea party, the troop traveled to Stockport to help with the Stockport Christian Church’s monthly food pantry. The girls, along with the church’s regular volunteers, put together food baskets with more of the donated cookies. The girls stayed to hand out the baskets and explain the program to the recipients of the food pantry.
“Troop 2 Share” is one of two programs available for people who want to support Girls Couts but do not want the cookies. In the other program, “Troop 2 Troop,” cookies are sent to soldiers overseas.
Troop 9146 has participated in both programs this year with the support of Jerry Dorothy of Texas, former childhood resident of Stockport, and great-uncle to members of the troop.
Troop 9146 is a Cadette troop that meets in Hillsboro at the library. The girls have been in Girl Scouts for six years. Their leader is Rhonda Runyon.
