Hampton, Williamson take new roles at IWC
Iowa Wesleyan College announced this morning in a release that Mike Hampton, former Director of Athletics, transitioned to a new position at the college — Director of Athletic Development and Engagement — as of Jan. 1, and that Steve Williamson, women’s basketball coach, will serve as Interim Director of Athletics.
Hampton, who has served as the Tigers’ Director of Athletics for 20 years, has moved to the Office of Development & Alumni Relations to assume his new role in the college.
Hampton’s duties will include connecting and developing relationships with IWC alumni, friends and business partners as well as developing engagement and communication strategies to advance the athletic programs and the college.
During Hampton’s 20-year career as Director of Athletics at IWC, the Tigers have won 18 conference championships and had 21 teams qualify for nationals. Hampton also helped establish the men’s and women’s soccer and re-establish cross-country programs at the college.
Both the IWC Athletic Hall of Fame and the IWC Athletic Association were created under Hampton’s guidance.
Prior to his time as Director of Athletics at IWC, Hampton taught at the Mt. Pleasant Community Schools for 23 years.
Hampton will continue to be the head softball coach at IWC. Hampton is in his 21st year coaching the Tigers.
Williamson has served as the Tigers’ NCAA Compliance Officer during the transition to the NCAA DIII ranks. He will continue his coaching duties while assuming the new role.
