Henry County Deputies make arrest, investigate accident
Henry County deputies made an arrest and investigated a traffic accident this week.
A traffic stop was conducted Feb. 23 in the 400 block of west Highway 78 in Wayland. Following the stop, Barry Nelson, 45, Mt. Pleasant, the driver of the vehicle, was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated-second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor, and driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway, a simple misdemeanor.
Deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident Feb. 22 in the 500 block of South Main Street in Salem.
An investigation revealed that a 2015 Mercedes work truck/van, operated by Samuel Menke, of Donnellson, was traveling south on Main Street (county road W55). Due to the foggy weather conditions, Menke misjudged the curve, driving off the roadway and striking a tree.
No injuries were reported and damage was estimated at $5,000.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
