Henry County sends 17 to Drake Relays
Seven Mt. Pleasant boys, six Mt. Pleasant girls and four Winfield-Mt. Union girls are among the high school athletes who have qualified for the Drake Relays in Des Moines on April 25-27.
Four Panthers will compete in the field events on Thursday afternoon: Logan Mulford will high jump at 3 p.m., and at 3:30 p.m., Leslie Taylor will compete in long jump while Emmett Wester and Justin Dunn throw shot put.
Mt. Pleasant’s Taylor, Kelsi Phipps and Hannah Becker, along with W-MU’s Cassie Kingery, will be competing in the first event on Friday morning, the 100-meter hurdle prelim. Mt. Pleasant’s Tommy Thorne and Cole Phillips are scheduled to compete in the 110-meter hurdles at 8:16. The finals for those events will be run at 11:38 a.m. (girls) and 11:43 a.m. (boys) on Friday.
In between, more Mt. Pleasant throwers will be competing. Mary Wester will throw shot put at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, and Dunn will compete in the discus at 9 a.m.
At 5:15 p.m., Mt. Pleasant’s 4x100-meter team of Tasha Vancil, Taylor, Phipps and Becker will compete in their prelim. The final will be on Saturday afternoon at 3:10.
The shuttle hurdle teams will compete on Saturday morning. The Mt. Pleasant team of Leslie Taylor, Sidney Taylor, Phipps and Becker, along with the W-MU team of Kingery, Anna Crawford, Emily Mathews and Karlie Wade will compete at 8 a.m., and the Mt. Pleasant boys’ team of Thorne, Phillips, Spencer White and Zach Mulford will take the track at 8:10. The finals will be run at 12:30 p.m. (girls) and 12:37 p.m. (boys) on Saturday.
Finally, Thorne will also compete in the boys’ 400-meter hurdles, which will be on Saturday at 2:03 p.m.
