Highland stops New London, 7-4
NEW LONDON — Cameron Watson gave New London a superlative relief performance Monday night.
However, the damage had been already done. Highland put seven runs in the book in the first three innings to take control never relinquished in a 7-4 win over the Tigers in Southeast Iowa Superconference play.
Entering the game in the fourth, Watson tossed four scoreless innings, striking out six. He was touched for four hits. All of the Huskie offense came off Reno Chiri who was roughed up for eight hits and six earned runs in three innings of work.
New London did get a double at the plate from Quincy Porter but had just four hits during the night. Devon Smyth, Cole Helmerson and Tyler Stevenson had the remaining three hits.
The loss dropped New London to 9-12 for the year with the regular-season finale at home against Burlington Notre Dame Thursday night.
