On Monday, June 10, particpants of all ages registered and received pumpkin seeds at the Hillsboro Public Library’s 2013 “Dig into Reading” summer program kick-off. Why pumpkin seeds you ask? You plant them now and bring your best pumpkin back in the fall for judging. More on that later this summer.
Following Monday’s registration, patrons enjoyed yard games, story time, fun activity sheets and grilled hot dogs. If you were not able to attend the kick-off, not to worry, the “Dig into Reading” summer program will be ongoing June 10 - July 31.
You still have time to register and begin burrowing through the shelves and revealing a seed packet task. Perhaps you might be the one to uncover the daily ice cream cone give-away donated by Jet Stop or come across the weekly scavenger item buried among the mysteries.
Library Director Casey will be unearthing a daily door prize for one lucky winner to come across. While you’re enjoying all this digging around at the library you’ll be earning chances for the prize drawing at the end of the program on July 31.
The Hillsboro Public Library is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and Saturday mornings 9 to 11 a.m. Stop in and check them out!
Did you know that if you have been deferred from donating blood because of low iron, it is not a permanent deferral. Iron levels fluctuate daily, so try again! The next Hillboro Community Blood Drive is Thursday, July 11, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Hillsboro Community Center. To donate sign up by calling the Blood Center at 800-747-5401. The last date to donate elsewhere is May 16.
If you have any family or community news that you would like published in the Hillboro News please email or call by Sunday at 5 p.m.
