Hobbs, Mitchell receive USCAA honors
Iowa Wesleyan’s Ridge Hobbs was selected as the USCAA Football Offensive Player of the Week after his performance against Martin Luther College on Saturday, and the Tigers’ Blake Mitchell earned USCAA Golfer of the Week honors after finishing as medalist at the Waldorf College Invitational on Sunday.
Hobbs, a senior from New London, caught six passes for 114 yards, including two touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff 47 yards for a score in a monster effort.
Hobbs has gone over 100 yards receiving in three of the Tigers’ five games this season. He has 25 receptions for 490 yards and six touchdowns on the year, continuing to pad his stats as the top wide receiver in school history.
He’s closing in on 3,000 career yards receiving as he now has 2,788 receiving yards in the Tigers’ uniform.
Hobbs has also moved to special teams this year, returning one kickoff return for the touchdown. He has two punt returns for a total of 25 yards on the season.
In men’s golf, Mitchell shot a round of 70 on the day to take the top spot.
The senior from Loveland, Colo., opened up with a 33 on the front nine and closed the back nine with a 37 for the win.
Mitchell’s play also helped the Tigers to a third-place finish as the Tigers shot a total score of 309.
The IWC football team will play its homecoming game at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex on Saturday. Kickoff against Crown College is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Next up for the men’s golf team is the season-ending William Penn Invitational in Oskaloosa on Friday and Saturday.
