IGHSAU releases regional pairings
Regional pairings were released by the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union yesterday, and the Mt. Pleasant girls’ have a bye in the quarterfinal round of Class 4A Region 4 competition but face tough competition from there on out.
The Panthers, ranked No. 15 in 4A, will play their first game — the regional semifinal — at home on Saturday, Feb. 22, against the winner of the quarterfinal game between Keokuk and Ft. Madison.
The winner of the game in Mt. Pleasant goes on to the regional final at Washington.
The Panthers have split their conference games against Keokuk this season, winning on Dec. 13, 43-34, and then falling to the Chiefs by a score of 55-49 on Friday.
Mt. Pleasant has only played Ft. Madison once this season, and it was a 61-22 win for the Panthers.
The other side of the Region 4 bracket has Clear Creek-Amana playing Davenport North in the quarterfinal, with the winner advancing to play No. 5 Davenport Assumption in the semifinal.
In Class 1A, New London, W-MU and WACO all in Region 4.
WACO will host Holy Trinity in first round on Feb. 13, and New London hosts Harmony the same night.
Other teams in top half of the bracket include No. 2 Burlington Notre Dame, Sigourney and Cedar Valley Christian.
The second-ranked Nikes have a first-round bye.
No. 12 W-MU also has a first-round bye, and the Wolves will play on Feb. 18 at home against winner of Keota/Lone Tree.
Other teams on bottom half are IMS, Calamus-Wheatland, Prince of Peace and Lisbon.
The Wolves could end up facing Burlington Notre Dame in the regional final.
W-MU met the Nikes in their semifinal game last season, and the Nikes knocked them out of regional play with a 90-38 win.
The Region 4 final will be played at West Burlington on Feb. 24.
Pairings have not yet been released by the IHSAA for the boys’ basketball district tournament, but district assignments have been made for Class 3A and 4A.
The Mt. Pleasant boys’ basketball team is in District 12 and Substate 6.
The Panthers are assured a conference opponent in both district games — District 12 also includes No. 10 Ft. Madison, Fairfield and Keokuk.
The district final will be played on Feb. 27 in Burlington.
The substate final, which will be the winner of District 12 against the winner of District 11 — Washington, Williamsburg, Grinnell and Pella — will be played on March 3 at a site to be determined.
